Mound Builders

The Indian cultures that the Mound Builders were produced from the northern plains of what are now the states of North and South Carolina and the area of ??the Mississippi Delta. The ancestors of modern Native North American tribes are considered by many archaeologists as the hills built between 3000 BC and 1200 are buried. But reports from early explorers seem to indicate that there were in the southern part of the continent still mounds built later than 16Century.

But 1540-1542, the Spanish conquistador, Herman de Soto traveled through what is in the southeastern United States. He said that contained large community was fastened and raised mound structures reported as squares. In 1560, French researchers on the territory of present-day north-east of Florida noted that the leaders were buried in large heaps with great ceremony.

Most of the information that we came to the mound building culturesby modern excavations. Have brought archaeologists and anthropologists, some of the pages carefully learned and light that at least in some cases, the Mound Builders structures of the country for burial or ceremonial purposes building. They speculate, moreover, that the Mound Builders of the architecture from a distance were the countries of Mexico and Central America marked.

John D. Baldwin, in his book Ancient America stated in 1871 that "In one of the hills in the openOhio Valley, were two rooms with the remains of which were made of wood walls and vaulted ceilings, such as those found in Central America, even for overlapping stones. "

The tribes of Central America and southern trade routes were far in the North American continent and it is through these objects, the culture and commerce was traveling south in the far north. The detection of these hills is a strong argument for the connection between these peoples.Verily, the forerunner of present-day tribes that lived in the Great Lakes part of the large-scale commercial culture that has been extended from the northern regions of the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.

Evidence of copper working, supported on the northern shore of the Great Lakes and the bottom of the shellfish from the Gulf of Mexico and similar styles of building the theory that if there is a trade in physical goods has opened the possibility wasTrade in ideas.

The hills were not always easy hills of dirt. Many are shaped like animals and you think that if they were built, were built as a grave chambers in the form of clan or totem animal, that the deceased belonged.

But not all hills are grave chambers. Pyramid-shaped mounds with flat tops and ramp were of prehistoric people known as the Coles Creek culture built. Often two or three hills, built around a central squareand it is believed that they were used for ceremonial purposes.
