Synopsis:
?In a small college town in Northern California, Laney Alexander leads a regular, uneventful life-that is, until the charming and alluring Oliver Knight enters her world. Who is this gorgeous and mysterious stranger? Or, rather, what is he? As Laney?s sophomore year of college begins, so does an unbelievable adventure-including a love she didn?t know she longed for. She soon learns that Oliver is not ordinary, nor is the rest of his family, including a sister who openly hates her and a brother who will stop at nothing for revenge. As she fights for her life, and Oliver?s love, Laney discovers that the fictional world of vampires isn?t so fictional after all. Nobody is safe, especially Laney, Oliver?s most important priority, and he will stop at nothing to protect her. With her mortality at risk, and a commitment revealed that she, without a doubt, knows she wants, Laney?s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn??

Review:
Oh Oliver!? *sigh?. * Oliver?.? how I wish I could jump into ?Laney? and take over her body! lol? Joann has written a paranormal YA novel that has everything a reader wants and then some.??? The story is gripping, the writing fantastic, the characters phenomenal, and to top it off, refreshing elements not often seen in YA books.
Out of the many, MANY reasons I love this book, one that stands out in my mind the most is the fact that both Oliver and Laney are virgins.? I *love* that they are virgins at college!? Not very often does this happen in real life or in books and I think it sends a message to young adults.? It is ok to wait!? It really is, and love is still possible if you do. ![]()
I also love the fact that Joann has mixed the ?normal? vampire traits with new traits of her own.? The Brookhaven vamps are able to walk around in the daylight (without sparkling, hehe) and with minimal trouble.?? They don?t feed from people?s necks (at least the ?good? ones don?t), and there is a slight chance of successfully having children.? LOVE the new aspects and the vampire world that Joann has created.
Oliver and Laney are wonderful characters and I truly enjoyed getting to know them.? Their love is so pure and wonderful, and even though they have hurdles to overcome, their love is so strong that you get the feeling they could overcome anything short of being taken away from each other.? Following them on their journey from the first meeting to becoming inseparable was a great experience.
Laney was a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys YA, paranormal, and even adult romance.? Read it.? NOW.? I promise you won?t be sorry.
Rating: 5/5 Fairies!
Now I?m off to email Joann and beg for the sequel?. ![]()
