Find Your Path with Career Counseling Services
I used to think that only high school or college students needed career counseling services. Every school I ever attended had some kind of counselor on hand who was supposed to be able to help you find out what you wanted to do with your life. Since I was determined that I wanted to major in finance and work at an investment banking firm, I never bothered to talk to anyone about my future plans. But in college, I found out that the world of high finance wasn?t as appealing as I thought it would be. I ended up getting a generic business administration degree instead, and have been floating from job to job for the past few years.
I?m kind of getting tired of this aimlessness, though, and feel like starting over. But since I?m not sure what I want to do, I figure I might as well find a place that offers career counseling services and talk to someone with experience in this area. At first, I felt a bit odd about considering career counseling services. After all, this seems like the kind of thing I ought to be able to work out on my own. Shouldn?t I already know what I?m interested in? Shouldn?t I be able to tell what kind of job I?d like to have? And if not, can?t I just read a couple of books to help point me in the right direction?
I weighed those arguments, but in the end decided that I should talk to a counselor because of the personalized feedback I?d be able to get from a certified professional. That would likely be worth whatever I had to pay for the career counseling services I received. The only thing left for me to do is find out where I can get career counseling services in this area.
Students that are currently enrolled in high school or college can get free career counseling services, but since that?s not my situation, I have to look for private consultants to talk to. Maybe I can even find career counseling services online these days. I wouldn?t mind filling out a couple of electronic forms and then talking to a counselor via Skype or something like that. That might actually be easier than heading downtown, fighting traffic, and having to pay an arm and a leg for parking.

Anyway, I just hope whichever counselor I end up talking to can help steer me down the right path. I?m willing to take an interest inventory test or do anything else necessary to facilitate the process. I?m tired of the utter lack of purpose in my professional life and want to get a job that is intellectually stimulating and rewarding. That?s not too much to ask for, is it?
