Radio Communications ? Antennas & Tower | Bloomington Internet ...

17 Dec, 2012

I put together this HAM radio tower out of 2 inch water pipe. The pipe is schedule 40 and 21 foot long. I have 2 lengths coupled together in three legs of the tower. I had these special brackets made up in 3/16th inch steel to couple the pipes together. I drilled and tapped the pipes for the bolts to hold the brackets. The whole thing sits in 2 yards of concrete. I have 7/8 hardline for the main antenna for the tower, a coax cable, and a phone line for internet service. I also added a 10 gauge DC line for future power needs up top. Total height when its done should be about 36 feet. Antenna I am putting up, a Solarcon IMAX 2000, a Comet CX-333 and a dipole which I have to make yet. In addition there will be the Motorola Broadband antenna plus a MURS antenna about half way up the tower. I also want to put a weather station up there as well. You could do the same thing with any radio antenna you have, or even simpler just use one water pipe 21 feet high and concrete it into the ground. Even having your antenna 15 feet up is better then on the ground.
